Update on the Cancellation of the Integration Agreement and Closure of St Joseph’s School, Patea
We are advising you that the Minister of Education and the school’s Proprietor have mutually agreed to cancel the integration agreement for St Joseph’s School, Patea, effective 31 December 2026 and that the school will close on that date.
The school will remain open until 31 December 2026. Between now and then the Ministry, Proprietor, and school’s Commissioner will work with staff, students and whānau to support them through the closure process. With whānau we are focused on ensuring a well-supported transition to their new schools.
We acknowledge that this is a difficult matter for the school community and thank everyone who took the time to engage with the consultation process. We also recognise the strength of faith, care, and shared values that underpin our Catholic community, and the way these have shaped the respectful and thoughtful contributions made.
We look forward to working together with the parish to honour and celebrate the rich history and special Catholic character of St Joseph’s School, Patea. A celebration of the school will be planned in partnership and held later in the year, with further details to be shared as plans progress.
